[ News ] Seoul ranked record high 9th in Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2024

Seoul’s 9th place ranking in the globalstartup ecosystem marks the city’s highest achievement to date. The city’sstartup ecosystem value has more than quintupled since 2021, rising from KRW 54trillion to KRW 308 trillion (around USD 237 billion). 

Startup Genom, a global startup ecosystemorganization, published its Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2024 on Monday, June10, in London (local time). The report evaluates 300 cities worldwide. Seoul’s9th place finish, its highest rank ever, surpassed Paris (14th) and Berlin(15th), two notable startup hubs in Europe. 

According to the Global Startup Ecosystem Report, Seoul scored 9 or higher in four out of five categories: Funding (10), Performance(9), Talent and Experience (9), and Knowledge (9). The city’s score for Market Reach also vastly improved from 1 in 2023 to 7 this year. 

 

Notably,Seoul scored a perfect 10 in funding, making it the number 1 city in Asia and 5thin the world in terms of competitiveness, despite the prolonged “investmentwinter” following the pandemic. The SMG was particularly praised for creatingits own fund and proactively investing in bio, artificial intelligence, andcreative industries.
